India-Tanzania bilateral trade reached USD 2.4 billion in 2020-21. Among the African nations, Tanzania ranked 4th, as India’s largest trade partner for the year 2020-21. Over the years before the pandemic, exports from India to Tanzania increased, but post pandemic our exports have fallen.

India’s engineering exports to Tanzania for 2021-22 recorded US$ 550.1 million, registering a growth of more than 70% over 2020-21. India’s major engineering exports to Tanzania include Industrial Machinery for dairy, agriculture, food processing, textiles, paper, chemicals, etc; Iron and Steel; Products of Iron and Steel, Two and Three Wheelers; Motor Vehicle/Cars; Aluminium and products made of Aluminium; and Electric Machinery and Equipment.

Opportunity for Indian Engineering Industry

India’s engineering exports in 2021-22 have reached USD 111.6 billion surpassing the target of USD 107.8 set by the Government. The year-on-year growth rate registered by the engineering exports at the end of the fiscal 2021-22 stood at 45.5 percent. India, on its quest to become a global superpower, has made significant stride towards developing its engineering sector.
